"T. HEGLAND DIED THURSDAY
LONG TIME BUSINESS MAN OF ROLAND IS VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK

Tornelius Hegland was born March 18, 1869 on the Hegland homestead two miles east of Roland. Although he had been in failing health the past few years he would come to his place of business daily, and it was while there that he was stricken with a heart attack, and passed away about four o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, December 7, 1950, at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

He was the son of Ole and Karie Anna Iverson Hegland. He was baptized by the Rev. Amlund at Story City, and confirmed by the Rev. Jacobson. He was a faithful member of the Bergen Lutheran church all his life, except for a few years when he was in Graettinger, Iowa, where he became a member of the Lutheran church which was organized there at that time.

While in Graettinger, Mr. Hegland was in partnership with his uncle in the mercantile business during the years 1893-97, and the fllowing four years he was in the mercantile business in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was the first rural mail carrier out of Roland, serving during the years 1902-05. Since 1905 he has been associated with the Hegland Produce Company in Roland. He was active in the civic affairs of the community, serving on the Town Council for several years.

Mr. Hegland leaves to mourn his departure, one sister, Mrs. Carrie Highland of Roland, with whom he made his home; two nieces, Mrs. Palmer Tysdahl of Hubbard, and Mrs. Calarence Helland of Roland; and one nephew, Bennett Hegland of Roland. Also two grand-nieces, Lois Helland and Mary Ella Tysdahl, and one grand nephew, Eugene Helland, who is serving with the U.S. Army in Korea.

He was peceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Iver and Bennie.

Funeral services were held from the Erickson funeral home and Bergen Lutheran church on Sunday afternoon, December 10, with Rev. Allen E. Nelson in charge. Mrs. Cecelia Rorvig sang the hymn, "Yeg Veden Vei saa fuld ar crengbel," at the funeral home. O. S. Boyd sang "Some Day We'll Understand," and "Den Store Hvide Flok" at the church. The front of the church was banked with flowers and many gifts of money were given to various missions in his memory.

Pall bearers were B. W. Evenson, Guy Wicks and W. N. Larson of Story City, and Dr. J. A. Snyder, S. J. Nelson and Orville Hagen of Roland. Mrs. A. R. Erickson and Miss Sylvia Thompson were in charge of the flowers. Burial was in the Roland cemetery.
