"Mrs. Carrie Highland died Sunday last week
Mrs. Carrie Highland, a resident of Bethany Manor at Story City since April 6, 1960, and formerly of Roland, died Sunday, February 9, at the hospital in Story City. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on February 18.

Funeral services for Mrs. Highland were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, in Bethany Manor, Story City, with the Rev. Pernie Pederson officiating, and at 2 p.m. in Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland with Rev. Howard Lybeck in charge. Interment was in the Roland Cemetery.

Music at the services was provided by Otto J. Hanson and the Bergen Ladies Triple Trio.

Pallbearers were Ben Arneson, Arnold Wierson, lloyd Ritland, LaVerne Jacobson, Reuben Larson and Orlin Holland. Circle I served lunch following the burial service.

Carrie Johanna Hegland Highland, daughter of the late Ole and Kari Anna Hegland, was born February 18, 1874, at the Hegland homestead two miles east of Roland and passed away February 9, 1964, at the Story City Hospital, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 22 days.

She was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Jacobson. On December 19, 1894, she was united in marriage to Ole Highland, Rev. G. Smedal performing the ceremony. They lived on a farm east of Roland until 1915, when they moved to the town of Roland. On April 6, 1960, Mrs. Highland became a resident of Bethany Manor in Story City. She was a lifetime member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Ole, who died in 1929, and an adopted daughter, Kethen Viola, who passed away in 1900; her parents and three brothers, Bennie Iver and Tornelius.

Survivors include two nieces, Mrs. Clarence Helland of Roland, and Mrs. Earl Engelson of Radcliffe, and a nephew, Bennett Hegland of Roland."
