Elza CHANEY was killed Tuesday afternoon by a saw log rolling over him. He and Joe OCKERMAN were sawing logs in the vicinity of Flater schoolhouse, Richland Township. The tree was lying on a hill side, and when the log was sawed off it started to roll and Mr. CHANEY ran and tried to make his escape, but fell forward on his face and the log coming close after him rolled over his lower limbs masking them and stopping on his body. The only word he was heard to say was Oh!” He was killed almost instantly. It took five men to roll the log off of him. He was about 36 years old and leaves a family.
