Mrs. Eliza BAKER FLYNN, daughter of Robert and Sarah BAKER, was born in Tennessee Dec. 11, 1830 and departed this life at the home of her son, James FLYNN, near Lyons, Dec. 26, 1912, aged eighty-two years and fifteen days.
When quite a child she came with her parents to Indiana, her parents being pioneers and settled near Koleen, Greene County, where Mrs. FLYNN grew to womanhood.
She was married to Armstead FLYNN about the year 1850, after which they resided on a farm in Center Township, near Cincinnati, for about fifty years. To this union there were born eight children, six of whom survive, two having died several years ago. Those living are Janittia KING, of Colorado, Celia FLOYD, of Bloomfield, Emma BORUFF and Sarah JOHNSON, Lyons, and James FLYNN of Lyons, and T. P. FLYNN, of Sullivan, Illinois. She had seven brothers and two sisters, all of whom are dead but two brothers and one sister. They are Hiram BAKER, Koleen; Novel BAKER, Elnora, and Mrs. Jane HARDESTY, Koleen. Forty-six grandchildren and about twenty great-grandchildren also survive her.
Till within a week of her home going she was in her usual health. The day before her departure she was suddenly paralyzed and never recovered.
She had been a most devoted mother and her many friends truly appreciated her. She united with the Methodist church in girlhood, and while not so active as some, yet she was truly a Christian in spirit and expressed a desire and readiness to meet her God and live in the joys of eternal life.
The funeral sermon was preached by Elder J. A. SPENCER at the home of her son, James FLYNN on Friday afternoon, Dec. 27, and the burial took place last Saturday morning in the FLYNN graveyard near Cincinnati.
