He was born on Oct. 6, 1926 in Olmitz, Iowa, the son of the late Jess Johnson and Maggie Smith Johnson.
Dr. Johnson attended school in Centerville, Iowa and graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1944. He attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and graduated with a Academic Degree of Doctor of Optometry.
He married Mary Jo Fearn in Rock Springs on Dec. 26, 1948 and she preceded him in death in Rock Springs on July 26, 1999.
Dr. Johnson served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was self-employed as an optometrist for many years until his retirement in 1987.
His interests included playing golf, traveling and was an enormous fan of the Wyoming Cowboys.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Salisbury and husband Bill of Casper, and Leanne Whitman and husband Carl of Evanston; two sisters Marguerite Asbury and husband Reed of California and Eva Long and husband Jack of Texas; one grandchild; four step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and Ben Sparks of Rock Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons Paul James and Bruce Robert; five brothers and two sisters.
