Bessie E (Current) Smith was born on June 12, 1883 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of William Crenshaw Current (1832-1908) and Emeline L "Emma" (Brown) Current (1844-1893).
She was married about 1910 to Jesse James Taylor Smith (1886-1969), the son of John Taylor Smith (1848-1926) and Eliza Emma (Dyer) Smith (1866-1925).
Bessie died of cancer on January 22, 1954 in Clarksville Hospital, Montgomery County, Tennessee. Burial was the next day in Greenwood Cemetery.
