Byron Carey Jackson passed away February 27, 2014 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Jean Trammell Jackson and is survived by three children, Lynne Jackson Roberson (Jerry), Mark Byron Jackson (Allison), Charlene Jackson Sims (John) and six grandchildren. After graduating from King's Point Merchant Marine Academy, he served his country in World War II, the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve. After a long career at U.S. Steel, he retired and moved to Hope Hull Alabama where he pursued several business interests and where he attended Pintlala Baptist Church. Mr. Jackson enjoyed many years of service as Treasurer of the U.S.S. Alabama Battleship Commission. He also served on the Foundation Board of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and the Board of Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham. The funeral will be held Monday March 3, 2014 at 11:00AM at Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham where Mr. Jackson was a charter member, with visitation beginning at 9:00AM. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.
