Wife of William Ervin Bradford (1835)
(according to Arnie Pate, Emeline was buried "on the hill behind my house" next to her husband, Wm Ervin Bradford)

Emeline's parents are John Higgins and Winnie Phillips of Yancey County NC. However, Emeline’s death certificate states that her parents are James Higgins (brother of John) and Sooky Briggs (James was married to Susannah Sooky Byrd). I believe whoever filled out the death certificate made a mistake. Emeline never shows up in the census with James and Sooky Byrd, but does show up with John Higgins and Winnie Phillips.

Emeline is definitely not the "Margaret M.", daughter of James Higgins/Sooky Byrd. (Found on numerous trees on Ancestry as being Emeline). This Margaret M. was unmarried and had a daughter Nancy Lovada Higgins who married John Bomar Wheeler.

Emeline Higgins is my great-great grandmother. My mother was DNA tested at FTDNA, Ancestry and 23andMe and we have connected closely with other descendants of John and Winnie. We have also connected to many Phillips descendants; in my opinion, DNA has confirmed that Emeline is indeed the daughter of John Higgins and Winnie Phillips.
