He mourned the loss of his loving wife of 61 years, Norma J. String, who passed away on January 15th.
Bob was born on May 19, 1932, in Gloversville, NY, to Thomas and Sarah (Neyhard) String. He is survived by his son, C. Robert (Rob) String Jr.. and his wife Pamela of North Reading, MA; his grandson, Andrew and his wife Jillian of Dracut, MA; along with his two great-grandsons, Neal and Noah;& newborn Nathan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Leslie String of Johnstown, NY, and Thomas String Jr. of Fort Plain, NY.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Chilton during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica and served as their treasurer for many years. He was a longtime member of the church choir and other church organizations.
Bob was a Master Mason at Utica Lodge 47. He was a 32nd degree Shriner and sang in the Shriners Chanters chorus for several years.
He worked for 34 years as a payroll auditor for the New York State Insurance Fund and later as a consultant for Keevily Corp. Bob had a lifelong passion for photography and won several local awards. Positive and always good humored, he enjoyed bowling, golf, trips to Maine, astronomy, blueberry pancakes, and of course his loving family and friends. Bob could tell you the best places to get a delicious serving of homemade pie in seven different NY State counties.
A joint memorial service for Norma and Bob is planned for next month, in March, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, NY.
