Ethel Adams Phillips, 90, of the Ground Squirrel Community in Robbinsville, NC, went home to meet her Savior on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Med West Harris in Sylva, NC. A native of Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Clarence and Della Stratton Adams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray E. Phillips, her son, Aquilla Phillips, her daughter, Barbara Phillips McClung, her sons in law, Ray Eller and Garland McGuire, and her infant granddaughter, Rhonda Diane Eller. She and her husband raised their seven children in a Christian home and created a heritage and legacy that will live on for generations to come. Her children fondly recall that on Saturday evenings, there were seven pairs of shoes, all shined, and seven sets of clothing, all neatly pressed, awaiting church on Sunday morning. Her faith and her family were her most valued possessions. The ability to call out to Christ in prayer sustained her through the loss of her husband and her two children. She was a prayer warrior and anyone who heard her pray knew that she was in touch with The Master. She is survived by her children and their spouses. She has 21 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was also excited to be welcoming 1 more great grandchild and 1 more great great grandchild in the coming months. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Lone Oak Baptist Church of which she was a member. Her grandson, Rev. Kevin Brooks, Rev. Scott Roper and Rev. Daniel Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 till 4:00 pm Sunday at Lone Oak Baptist Church, prior to the service. Townson-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. An online register is available at www.townson-smithfuneralhome.com.
