Our Golf Legend Donald L. Baldwin, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on February 6, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born February 1, 1928 in Manderfield to Charles Loyal and Thelma Hodges Baldwin. He was the 5th of 6 children. He loved his parents and siblings, they were a close family.
Don grew up learning the value of hard work, he helped on the farm learning skills he used throughout his life. He always grew a large, successful garden and enjoyed keeping his yard in perfect condition. He had a green thumb and grew beautiful roses.
Don loved the outdoors, he enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting, snowmobiling, fishing and especially golf. He, his sons, and his grandsons spent many days in the hills enjoying each other's company.
Don loved people and made friends wherever he went. He was a happy, positive person. He owned a farm and a herd of dairy cattle for many years. He ran the Conoco distributorship throughout the county. He was honest in his business dealings and because of his honesty he built up a large clientele. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer of Utah award in 1958.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had an unwavering testimony of the gospel. He served a mission in California in 1947 and brought many people into the church. He served in many callings and was a faithful home teacher.
He married Carene Ivie on March 31, 1950 in the Manti Temple. They shared a wonderful life together and were able to travel and enjoy life. They spent winters in St. George and summers in Beaver. He has missed Carene tremendously after her death in 2009.
Don and Carene had four children: Terry, Angela, Kim and Morgan. Their family was the most important thing in their lives. They have 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Grandpa made each one of them feel special.
His family is so grateful for his example to them, throughout his illness he remained positive and was so grateful for everything that was done for him.
Don is survived by three of his children, Terry (Terri) Baldwin of Cedar City, Angela Daley of Provo, Kim (Greg) Solberg of Beaver, one brother Kenneth (Leona) Baldwin of Ogden, Brother-in-law Charley R. Smith of St. George. He was preceded in death by his wife Carene, his son Morgan, his parents Loyal and Thelma Baldwin, brothers Eugene and Garth, and sisters LaRue and Lillis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Beaver First Ward Chapel located at 15 North 100 West in Beaver, Utah, with a viewing Friday February 14, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary in Beaver, Utah located at 195 N. 200 W. Beaver, Utah and again prior to service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery, under the direction of Don's grandson-in-law Matthew Hoyle with Southern Utah Mortuary.
