He was born in rural Randolph County on July 11, 1921 to the late Redmon C. and Viola Ward Holder. He was a World War II veteran with the US Army, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he worked as a Mechanic for many years before taking over as the Director of Transportation with the Pocahontas Public School system. After retirement from Pocahontas Public School he enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his grandchildren. He was a true gentleman and his great Christian influence will be missed, but will live on in the lives of his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Eva Holder; one infant daughter, Alma Louise Holder; one sister, Pauline Stone; and two brothers, Bill and Floyd Holder.
He is survived by one son, Gail Holder and his wife Brenda; one daughter, Daphene Heern and her husband John all of Jonesboro; one brother, Ed Holder of Conway; one sister, Lucille Davis of Walnut Ridge; six grandchildren, Julie Adkins and her husband James, Jeremy Holder and his wife Kasey, Emily Devereux and her husband Nick, Courtney Batten and her husband Justin, Johnna Heern, and Clay Heern; ten great grandchildren, Kaylee, Molly, Avery Adkins, Kendall and Keaton Holder, Stephen and John Thomas Devereux, Jacie, Dustin, and Autumn Batten all of Jonesboro.
Service will be at 3pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014 in the Emerson Memorial Chapel with Michael Meredith officiating. Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1pm until service time
