Walter Pollock of Hood River, Oregon, was 93 when he passed away of natural causes Dec. 19, 2010, at home.

He was born June 2, 1917, in Rochester Mills, a son of the late Robert J. and Flora (Jordan) Pollock. He was the oldest of four children.

Mr. Pollock was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Corps in Africa as a weather forecaster.

Walter was married to Virginia Reese Pollock for 58 years. She preceded him in death in March 2003.

Mr. Pollock regularly attended the Riverside Church in Hood River and served in various leadership roles of the Greencastle and Punxsutawney Presbyterian churches.

He was a farmer and a school bus driver near Punxsutawney. He was also a service technician and salesman in HCR, at his brother Robert's machine and computer business in Hagerstown, Md. He retired at the age of 65 in 1982 after 25 years of service.

Walter spent nearly three years building a 26' trimaran sailboat in his garage in Greencastle. He sailed the boat, Sir Launch-a-lot, for 17 seasons thereafter on the Chesapeake Bay.

Surviving relatives include a son, James Walter Pollock and wife Nancy of Mount Laurel, N.J.; a daughter, Karey P. White and husband Bob of Hood River, Ore.; three grandchildren, Peter and Laura, and Silvan Shawe and husband Adam Young of Haleiwa, Hawaii; and a brother, Dr. Joseph J. Pollock, USAF Col. Ret. and wife Nancy of Hickory, N.C.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

Interment was in Circle Hill Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Honor Guard.
