He was a retired supervisor of J.P. Stevens Co., Monaghan plant, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Northgate Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Eddie Mae Phillips Burgess of the home; three daughters, Barbara McClure and Gail Saylors of Anderson and Linda Waters of Columbia; a sister, Frances Smalley of Anderson.
