YORK Albert Farrar died on Sunday, February 16, at York Hospital. He was born January 20, 1918, to Giovanna and Attilio Ferrara of Canonsburg. He was the husband of Dorothy Allen Farrar for nearly 58 years. He is also survived by their son, Ross Allen Farrar; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Jean (Fix) Farrar of York; and his grandchildren, Chelcea E. Farrar and Ross A. Farrar, both of Black Mountain, N.C. Albert moved to New York City in 1938 to work at the World's Fair. Later he was employed by TWA and United Airlines in their food service. He was drafted in 1941, and spent two years in field artillery, later transferred to the Army Air Corps, where he spent three years in the Pacific Theater. He was a pilot who flew many missions from the Philippines to North Korea. He was discharged in 1946, with the rank of Captain. Albert was very proud of his time served. After the war, he worked for TWA in Kansas City, Mo. He then moved to Montana, where he was employed at the headquarters of McLaughlin, Inc. and was sent to their Alaska operations. He spent five years working at various Alaskan sites, including the Aleutian Islands during construction of the Alcan Highway. In 1961, the family moved to York, where Albert was a vice president at Bowen-McLaughlin until his retirement in 1982. Albert was a member of First Presbyterian Church of York, where he served as deacon. He was active in York Twinning Organization and enjoyed travel. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason. The memorial service will be at the convenience of his family. Interment will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
