Sue Ann (Smith) Nelson, born November 9, 1936 of West Des Moines, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Methodist Hospital of complications from surgery. Sue was born in Evanston, IL on November 9, 1936 to Don R. Smith and Ruth (Conway) Smith. She was raised in Des Moines, IA where she graduated from Roosevelt High School. She went on to attend the University of Iowa, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics.

In 1958, Sue was married to Don Nelson. Together they had four children; Michael, Nancy, Julie and Rebecca. When she wasn't spending time with her family, she was working as a preschool teacher at Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines. After that she went on to work in the accounting department at American Republic Insurance in Downtown Des Moines. Sue retired in 2000. She was president of the P.T.A. when her children were in school and was also a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Ruth Smith; her brother, Rich Smith; and her son, Michael Nelson. She is survived by her husband, Don Nelson; her daughters, Nancy (Leon) Fischer, Julie Williamson, and Rebecca Nelson (Harmony Linden); her grandchildren, Jessica Rumsey (Tom Ochoa), Jennifer Rumsey (Dan Myers), Jamie Rumsey, Isaac Fischer Ashley Williamson, Brandon Williamson, Nick Williamson, Katie Williamson and Zoey Linden Cadd; and eight great-grandchildren.
