Vira C. Way, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Bertrand Nursing Home, Bertrand, Nebraska. Vira was born December 1, 1920 at Palisade, Nebraska, the daughter of Marshall Kersey and Nancy Temperance (Hibbs) Biesecker.

Vira was baptized on April 17, 1960 at the Smithfield (NE.) Methodist Church by Pastor Russell Brown. Vira grew up at Smithfield, Nebraska and received her education from Smithfield (NE.) Public School.

Following her education, Vira was united in marriage to Orien "Hank" Way on June 29, 1940 at Norton, Kansas and to this union four children were born: twin daughters who were born at rest and daughter, Sharon Kay and son, Kenneth Leroy. The family made their home at Smithfield, Nebraska where Vira enjoyed life being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also employed as a telephone operator and Post Master in Smithfield for several years. Later in years, Vira was employed by Plectron in Overton, Nebraska until its closing and then worked at Pamida, Lexington Nebraska from 1975 until her retirement in 1986. Through the years, Vira enjoyed her membership of the Eagles Auxiliary and was a member of the Methodist faith in the communities in which she lived. Vira enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo and traveling, especially to California to visit her sisters. She also enjoyed fishing with her grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events. Due to failing health, in 2010 Vira began to make her home at the Bertrand Nursing Home, Bertrand, Nebraska.

Vira was preceded in death by: husband, Orien "Hank" Way; parents; twin daughters, Arlene and Eileen Way; granddaughter, Melanie Oman; brothers, Eugene and Wayne Biesecker; sisters, Erma Forsyth, Eileen Hayes, June Way and Joan Mercer.

Vira leaves to mourn her passing; daughter, Sharon Kay (Richard) Oman of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Kenneth (Joyce) Way of Smithfield, Nebraska; grandchildren, Michael Oman and his wife, Merley, Michele Roy and her husband, Michael, Mark Oman and his wife, Debbie, Monte Oman, Vanji Vosler and her husband, Shad, Dusty Way and his wife, Casandra; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Vira C. Way were conducted at the United Methodist Church, Bertrand, Nebraska on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mary Fuller as officiator.

Interment was in Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Nebraska.
