Alba died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Elgin. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He married Susie Vasquez on April 1, 1946, in Elgin. They moved to Slaton in 1948. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and he worked with W.D. Turner Construction in Lubbock until retiring in 1976. A daughter, Linda Olivarez, died in 1992.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim of Lubbock; a daughter, Frances Gatica of Slaton; two sisters, Maria Alba of Houston and Pina Hernandez of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
