Paul Orvel Blankenstein, 88, of Waco, passed away on February 12, 2014. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor John Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2014, at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Paul Orvel was born in Gerald, Texas, to the late Paul and Annie Kreder Blankenstein.
On August 10, 1947, Paul married Frances Cordelia Sydow. They had one daughter. Paul was hardworking and retired from General Tire after 36½ years. On April 1, 1977, he married Melba J. Laird. After retirement, he and Melba worked Baylor sporting events together for 28 years. Paul was a longtime member of First Baptist Waco. He enjoyed making jewelry and working with his hands. Paul could fix most anything and was always ready to lend a hand in anyway he could.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Sydow Blankenstein on July 16, 1976; brothers, Herman Blankenstein and Harvey Blankenstein; sisters: Margaret Nix, Lucille Petty, and Rose Marie Blankenstein; and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Laird Blankenstein; daughter, Paula F. Lynn and husband, Sidney; and long-time friends, Gerald and Elizabeth Hatfield.
