OBITUARY
Steven Ray Rhodes left this life suddenly and far too soon, Friday, February 7, 2014, at Kittitas Valley Healthcare Hospital, to live in the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Steve was born on March 2, 1953, to Raymond Myrle and Dorothy Lorraine Yeldell Rhodes in Ellensburg, WA, the third of seven children.

Steve married his beloved wife, Carole Louise Miller on September 22, 1983. Together they are the parents of Anita, Aaron, Reba, Mitchell, and Garrett. In addition to their own children, Steve and Carole opened their home and hearts to their children's friends thus becoming Mama and Papa Rhodes to hundreds of children and young adults over the years. Through these special relationships, they "adopted" many young people into their circle of family, too numerous to mention by name. These relationships now extend to the next generation.

Steve led a life of service starting from a young age with his own family. Immediately following graduation from EHS in 1971, Steve honorably served his country in the United State Air Force from 1971-1979. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1993 from Central Washington University. Upon graduation he served as the city clerk of Kittitas, and then found his niche working the front office at Ellensburg Cement Products for nearly 20 years.
Steve loved serving in his community and was an avid supporter of Ellensburg High School athletics, music programs, and musical theater productions. Steve and Carole rarely missed an EHS football game sitting under the press box at the 50-yard line. Steve volunteered as the head timer and scorekeeper for EHS wrestling for 15 years, "retiring" after last season.

Steve was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, selflessly serving the church most recently as ward clerk. Steve was a man of deep faith, quiet and reserved, and much beloved. Steve never let an opportunity to say "I love you" pass leaving a legacy of love to those to call him family or friend. His bear hugs and smiles are legendary! Steve delighted in his family, but his greatest delight was becoming a Papa.

Steve is survived by his wife, Carole Miller Rhodes, children Anita (Norman) Harrell of Barnesville, GA; Aaron (Carolyn) Rhodes; Reba (Nicholas) Sabin; Mitchell and Garrett Rhodes all of Ellensburg; grandchildren Jared, Allyson, and Carys Rhodes, Makenna and Mailey Sabin, Casen and Libby Huss; mother Dorothy Rhodes, brother Randy (Suzanne Wade) of Ellensburg, sisters Vicki Smokoff of Lynwood, WA; Shelley Kelly of Beaverton, OR; and Tammy (Randy) Ristine of Maui, HI; and parents-in-law Homer "Pinky" and Judy Miller, and Georgia (Dennis) Goodale. Steve is also survived by his sisters-in-law Connie (Don) Dahlberg, Cami Freeland, Joy Worthen, Jana Worthen, Kristl (Aaron) Densley, Kara Miller, Pam Miller, and nieces Rachel, Becca, Lindsey, Kelsey, Kathleen, and Misti, and nephews Kenny, Danny, Jordan, Cooper, Logan, and Landon. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Myrle, brothers Dennis and Tom, and brother-in-law Dennis Kelly.

A memorial service for Steven Ray Rhodes will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1700 Brick Road, Ellensburg, WA, with interment immediately following at the IOOF Cemetery.Arrangements by Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Carole Rhodes for a Family Education Fund at Bank of the West, Ellensburg Branch.
