Parents: James Deakins and Martha Brand.

James was b. 14 Nov. 1754, King George Co., VA. He m. Martha Brand April 1782, Westmoreland Co., VA. He d. 20 July 1834, Fairfield, Franklin Co., Indiana. He served under Captain Richard Parker and fought at the battle of Long Bridge. He was discharged at Williamsburgh, VA. From 1796-1814, resided in Tenn. (4 children were born in TN) On 27 June 1814, James settled on land in Franklin Co., Indiana.

Martha Brand Deakins, b. 6 Dec. 1765, Westmoreland Co., VA; d. 1 January 1862, Jefferson Twp, Andrew Co., MO.

After 1855 as Martha received 5 years' pension from the U.S. Govt for her husband's service during the American Revolution.

1834: Danville, Des Moines Co., Iowa; this is just across the Mississippi River from McDonough Co., Illinois. Also moving with him were Enoch Cyrus & Noble Owlsey and their families.
1836: William & his family arrived in Jefferson Twp, Buchanan Co., MO
1838: William & family arrived in Andrew Co., MO. Apparently Enoch & Rebecca Cook Cyrus also moved to Andrew Co., MO.
1845: William was on committe planning a trek to Oregon.
June 1851: Arrived Oregon Territory; settled in Linn Co.
12 May 1874: Wrote his Will
9 July 1875: Passed away.

Note: In 1900, there was a wooden marker at his grave. He was buried to the left of his son Thomas. The original layout of the cemetery no longer exists. The current paved road goes over his grave and probably that of his son James. (as per Edna Wiese, Vol. 1, "Our Heritage" (Briscoe, Cook, Cyrus, Deakins * Sutherlin families), Nov. 2000, pg. D-32.)

Note: Enoch Cyrus & his extended families (including the Owsleys) settled in Napa Valley, Calif. in 1846 and they are buried in the Calistoga Pioneer Cem. Enoch's son John Cyrus, married Lovina Graves, a Donner Party survivor and they are buried in the Cyrus Plot.
