On November 17, 1886 Gertrude married James Coleman Davies of Masonville, Daviess County, Kentucky. She was 17. His family had migrated from Kentucky to El Dorado, Greenwood County, Kansas and then on to Spring Creek, Coffey County, Kansas at the same time as hers. It is assumed they were part of the same migration.
Gertrude died at 19, almost two years after their marriage. It is unknown if there were any children born to that union.
On December 16, 1894 James remarried to Anna Adelia Young in Coffey County. The couple tried farming in Henry, Vernon County, Missouri for a few years, then went to Washington State. The children that are listed with that couple were born after the marriage to Anna.
