Son of Christopher Betts and Elizabeth LYNUM, he served in the Civil War - Private, Enlisted in Company D, Ohio 92nd Infantry Regiment 17 Sep 1862. Mustered out 10 Jun 1865 at Washington, DC.

Thomas married Cynthia Ann EDES, February 1, 1866, Noble, Ohio, and they had a son Oloes in 1869, and son Harry Cloyd in 1873.

Widowed in 1875, he married Orpha ANDERSON,1880, and they had a son Clarence J in 1882.

Widowed again, he married Martha 'Mattie' RAY Morgan, October 19, 1889 and they had two children Willa Ann and Friend.
She was married to Owen Morgan in 1881 Noble.

Daughter Willa married George Forbes.
