He was born June 12, 1926, in Almond, Ark., to Chester E. and Arkie A. (Kerlin) Thomas. He married Ruth Lawrence Oct. 30, 1949, in Batesville, Ark. She died Dec. 2, 1971. He later married Johnie Floyd.
He was a retired civil service inspector at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Survivors include his wife; children, Shawn, Little Rock, Ark., Brenda Sue Newland and Joyce Ann Thomas, both of Davenport; six grandchildren; and siblings, Carol Hever and Jane Harmon, both of Batesville, Ark., Faith Brackett, Concord, Said Thomas, Conway, Ark., and Martin Thomas, Little Rock.
