Sen. Lewis B. Brantley died peacefully Tuesday, May 11, 2004 with his family surrounding him after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Sen. Brantley was born August 3, 1937 in Alamo, Georgia son of Charles S. and Mary W. Brantley.

He had been a permanent resident of Jacksonville, Florida since the age of 12. For the last 20 years he divided his time between Jacksonville and his beloved farm in Hilliard, Florida. He attended Georgia Tech and Jacksonville University. He was a communicant of St. Catherine's Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years the former Catherine Dent, their children Richard L. Brantley (Renee), Karen B. Akins (David), Linda B. Chapman (Sid), Robert C. Wulbern (Sharon), Allan E. Wulbern (Fran) and grandchildren Bronson Brantley (Lindy), Lauren & Benjamin Akins, Tiffany, Michael & Steven Chapman, Walker & Alex Wulbern and Jack & Sims Wulbern along with one brother and three sisters, a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law as well as numero us nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sen. Brantley was President of the Florida Senate (1976- 1978), Imperial Potentate of the Shrine of North America (1997- 1998) as well as a successful business man and community leader.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 14, 2004 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, Jacksonville, Florida. Arrangements by Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home, 729 Edgewood Avenue, S, Jacksonville, Florida 32205.
