Son of Joseph P. and Elizabeth Bunnell Gilliland, he was single, a farmer in Frenchcreek Twp, Venango Co, PA, retired 2 years, died at home of chronic valvular heart disease, per death certificate 53021, whose informant was L. R. Gilliland of Polk. Buried May 8 1930.

Oil City Derrick, Wed, May 7 1930:
Joseph P. Gilliland, 75, died Tuesday afternoon on the Gilliland homestead in Frenchcreek Township. He was born, reared, and lived all his life on the farm where he died.

He was well known, admired and respected by a host of friends. He was a farmer all his life until retiring two years ago due to ill health. His death followed a serious illness of two weeks.

He lived with his sisters, Miss Eleanor Gilliland and Miss Fannie Gilliland, who survive; with brothers, Daniel B. Gilliland of Frenchcreek Township, William B. Gilliland of Los Angeles, CA, and Lee R. Gilliland of Polk.

Services will be at his home at 1:30 pm Thursday with Rev. J. K. Gilvray, pastor of Waterloo Presbyterian Church of Polk, officiating. Interment will be in Sandy Cemetery, Polk.
