Mary Elizabeth `Betsey` Rash 1785-1830
* Matilda was born in Reddies River, Wilkes, Co, N.C. She married Henry Barlow March 22, 1832 in Wilkes, Co, N.C.
She and Henry lived on the Long Hope, which is a natural grass land straddling Ashe and Watauga counties. There they cared for the cattle of a family named Patterson. When Henry passed away, he (and later Matilda) was buried under a maple tree on their property. This is not an official cemetery, according to a family historian who has visited. It is a collection of graves of "slaves and Indians." Henry and Matilda did not own slaves so they would have belonged to the Pattersons.
