Stephen Lee "Steve" Bowman, 64, husband of Margaret (Bersik) Bowman of 672 New Hope and Crimora Road passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011 in the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Mr. Bowman was born March 6, 1946 in Norwich, Norfolk, England, a son of Phyllis (Latimer) Bowman and the late Robert Thomas Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where he was active in the United Methodist Men's group. Steve retired in 2001 from Reynolds Flexible Packaging Company, in Grottoes as a machinist, he was a former member and chief of the Matoaca Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and was a charter member of the New Hope Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors where he spent time hunting, fishing, camping and enjoyed attending the Highland County Maple Festival where he helped at the Rexrode Farm.
In addition to his mother of Matoaca, VA and his wife of 43 years he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Thomas Bowman and his wife Heather of Round Hill, VA; a daughter, Jennifer L. Bowman of Manassas, VA; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan B. Daniels and her husband Ronald of Chesapeake, VA; a granddaughter, Emma J. Bowman, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 in New Hope United Methodist Church by Revs. R. Douglas Gunsalus and James P. Murphy.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church and other times at the residence.
Active pallbearers will be George Starke, John Holloway, Scott Krogman, Andrew Scott Bersik, Ronald Daniels and Charley Drumheller.
It is suggested that memorial contribution be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research International, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498, Emmitsburg MD, 21727.
Stephen was born on March 6, 1946 and passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011.
