Mrs. Marjorie Baker, 82, of 2935 S. 12th St., died at 1:03 a.m. Saturday (November 5, 2005) in Blessing Hospital.

Born July 11, 1923 in Quincy, Marjorie was the daughter of Lawrence and Phoebe Burch Kill. She married Donald C. "Don" Baker on February 16, 1943 in Quincy. He survives.

Marjorie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was active in the rosary and altar society. She was a 1941 graduate of Quincy High School and a member of the Mart Heinen Club and was an avid Quincy University Basketball Fan. She was an active volunteer at the Illinois Veterans Home for over 50 years. She was a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary several times and also served as President of the 15th District. She was also a Past President of the 8 & 40. She volunteered at the Hostess Room at St. Mary's Hospital and in the Tearoom at Blessing Hospital. She also delivered mail to the rooms at Blessing Hospital. She enjoyed camping, cooking and sewing. Marjorie was a loving and giving person who gave her time to many organizations. She dearly loved her family and especially enjoyed going to all her grandchildren's games and activities. She loved to watch the birds and hummingbirds as they flew to the window to eat out of the bird feeder. She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all.

Also surviving is her daughter, Patricia "Pat" Mast and her husband Robert of Quincy; her son, Thomas Baker and his wife Kathy of Quincy; six grandchildren, Deborah Walker and her husband Andy of Macomb, Brian Mast and his wife Andi of Milan, IL., Missy Myers and her husband Kirsten, Quinn Baker, Daniel Baker and Greg Mast, all of Quincy; four great grandchildren, Ethan Walker, Payton Mast, Vaughn Myers and Luke Mast.; her sister, Marilyn Hagerbaumer of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lawrence Kill Jr.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Mary's Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Kuse and Rev. James Baker. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home with a Quincy American Legion Auxiliary service at 6:45 p.m..

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.
