Mr. Archie George Stephens Sr., of Cherry Valley, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the age of 90.

He was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Cherry Valley, Arkansas, to Herman Ralph and Bessie Mae Siler Stephens.

He married Ms. Esther Riley on Aug. 17, 1946.

Mr. Stephens was a member of the Cherry Valley Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served as a deacon. He was a former Cherry Vally Citizen of the Year, member of th American Legion and was also a former Cherry Valley City Council member. He enjoyed helping others and was an avid coon hunter. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and spending time with his family. Mr. Stephens served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was awarded the Purple Heart and one Bronze Star. Upon returning home he resumed farming in the Cherry Valley area.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Esther Stephens; his parents; brother, Walter Stephens; and sister Pauline Hall.

Mr. Stephens was survived by his sons, Archie Stephens Jr., Dennis (Retha) Stephens, both of Cherry Valley; daughters, Wanda (Jerry) Smith of Wynne, Patti Reesor of Alabama; brother, Wayne (Clara) Stephens of Wynne; sister Mable Montgomery of Oregon; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grand-children; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Thompson-Wilson Wynne Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in Crosslawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
