Thomas Spencer, s. of Obadiah Spencer and Mary Disborough, b. circa 1666 at Hartford, Conn. He d. June 14, 1761 at East Hartford, Æ 96 (g.s.) If his gravestone listing in the 1934 Hale Conn. Cem. Database is correct, Thomas was b. before June 14, 1667.

By late 1694, Thomas m. Sarah Meakins, dau. of John Meakins and Mary Bidwell, b. prob. at East Hartford but bp. of record Apr. 19, 1674 at the Hartford 2nd Ch. She d. July 22, 1741 at East Hartford, Æ 68 (g.s.) They had the following eight known children: Thomas, Sarah, Mary, Joseph, Silas, Gideon, Timothy and Lois.

An extended sketch and summary of the children's families will be added later.

Note: Thomas3 Spencer (1666-1761) (Obadiah,2 Sgt. Thomas,1 Gerard,A) of East Hartford was the 1st cousin once removed of Samuel2 Spencer (1639-1716) (William,1 Gerard,A), latter the 1st cousin of Thomas' father Obadiah2. The wife of Samuel2 Spencer has traditionally been called Sarah Meakins, dau. of Thomas2 Meakins (q.v. Meekins) and his 1st wife Sarah, b. of record at Braintree, Mass. in 1641. In Barbour's "Families of Early Hartford," the family outline of Samuel2 Spencer of Hartford includes the misplaced comment "John Meakins mentions Sarah Spencer in his will Nov. 22, 1702." The comment should have been placed with Barbour's next listed family, Obadiah2 Spencer, whose sketch includes son Thomas3 the husband of Sarah Meakins, dau. of John Meakins and Mary Bidwell late of East Hartford.
