David Jordan Wardlaw, a son of John and Margaret "Peggy" [née Jordan] Wardlaw, was born in the bounds of Cedar Springs in Abbeville County, South Carolina. His parents were connected to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian churches at Cedar Springs and Long Cane.

On March 27th 1856, David married Miss Mildred Elizabeth "Bettie" Wideman, a daughter of Uel and Malvina [née Dabbs] Wideman. This union was blesses with the following known children:
