MERIL JOHNSON SR., 84, of Little Rock went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004. He was born May 11, 1919, in Starm, Ky., a son of the late James Johnson and Hazle (sic) Cornett Johnson. He was a retired bus driver in Little Rock with 36 years of service. He was a Baptist and a United States Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Wheat Johnson. He is survived by sons, Meril Johnson, Jr. and R. D. Smith; daughter, Frances Dickerson; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brand; brother, Bill Johnson; sister, Mildred Summers; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, in Roller-Drummond Southwest Chapel with Ministers L. J. Brand, Jr. and Earl Guenther officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home (501-455-5800). The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the V.A. Hospitals.
