Henry was the second child of Julia LeClaire and Peter Livermont I. Born in Hamburg, IA, but lived most of his life on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Dewey County, SD. He served two terms as Dewey County assessor.

He and Amelia Arpan had six children: Josephine (Fred) Cudmore, Peter Alferd, Henry Alexander, Charles Edward (M. Anna Greff), Katherine Cecelia (Sidney Antoine) LeBeau, and Francis Alexander (M. Christine Edna Traversie).

His siblings were: Peter II, Alexander, Edward, Julia LaGrandeur, Victoria Carpenter, and Joseph James Livermont.
