Emerson Rodney Allmond, Jr., well-known businessman and civic leader, died Wednesday morning, May 22, 1996 following a brief illness. Mr. Allmond, affectionately known as "Junior" Allmond, was a native of Montgomery County but had lived in Vidalia most of his life where he was active in business, civic and religious activities. He was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tifton, Ga., with a degree in forestry. He owned and operated The Shrimp Boat and Allmond Chevron for 20 years and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Recently, he was elected Commander of the American Legion, Vidalia post. Mr. Allmond was a member of the Vidalia Masonic Lodge No. 330, a member of Alee Shrine, a member of Quint Shrine Club, member of the Moose Lodge and Elk's Lodge, Vidalia. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the church's Men's Bible Class.

Mr. Allmond is survived by his wife, Mrs. Claudell Williamson Allmond, Vidalia; three sons, Roderick Mark Allmond, Alpharetta, Gary Reed Allmond, Peachtree City and John Rick Allmond, Vidalia; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Ann Powers of Florence, S.C. and Peggy McRae, Lyons; one brother, Quay Allmond, Brunswick; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Allmond were held Friday, May 24, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Dr. William A. Berryhill and the Rev. Jimmy Smith officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery, Vidalia with full Masonic Rites. Murchison Funeral Home, Vidalia, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Pallbearers were James Boyce, Arty Allmond, Danny Allmond, Steve McLemore, Dr. Chris McRae, Billy Powers, Jerry Yount, and Arnie Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers included the Men's Bible Class, First Baptist Church, the Quint Shrine Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Quint Shrine Club.
