She was born in Clay County, Indiana on November 5, 1933 to Clint and Audrey Porter.
Mary Ellen graduated from Van Buren High School in 1951, after being united in marriage with Fred H. Burk.
She was a private caregiver for the elderly and later handicapped adults, she ran the Forest Park Concession Stand with her husband. Mary was a member of the Brazil Church of Christ, and in her earlier years belonged to the home extension club, hosted many holiday parties, and enjoyed fishing, camping, mushroom hunting and working in her vegetable garden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sons, Timothy J. Burk, James D. Burk, Brothers, Clint A. Porter, Jr., Robert G. Porter, William R. Porter.
She is survived by her son Denis M. (Sue) Burk, Reelsville, Indiana. A daughter Deborah (Achuta) Rao, Indianapolis, Indiana. Brothers Jim (Helen) Porter, Plainfield, Indiana, Harry (Ann) Porter, Greencastle, Indiana, and David Porter, Indianapolis, Indiana. Sisters: Shirley (Don) Lawson, Brazil, Indiana, Jean (Wayne) Cox, Plainfield, Indiana, Kathy Bass, Brazil, Indiana. Sister-In-Law Barbara (Jim) Ferry, Brazil, Indiana. Grandchildren Susheela Rao, Jason, Joshua and Jeremy Burk, Shane Ake, Tiffany Archer. Great-Grandchildren Elizabeth and Chase Allegree, Estifanos Gebrekidan, Jr., Ambessa Rao, Elizabeth Ake, Lisa Marie Archer. Several Nieces, Nephews and Extended Family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Moore Funeral Home in brazil with Brother Jim Porter officiating and burial to follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
The family will accept friends from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Gideon's.
