As Dr. Sears helped Baylor University Medical Center's Radiology Department rise to national prominence, Ouida ran the home, carpooled, and lead activities from Camp Fire Girls to P.T.A. President. She was a member of The Dallas Woman's Club, the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Dallas County Medical Alliance, and was a charter member of Park Cities Presbyterian Church.
A joyful traveler, she visited England, Ireland, France, Canada, and Hong Kong. Her favorite place on earth was sitting in her rocking chair with a grandchild on her lap reading a book. After the girls were grown, she became a realtor-broker achieving multi-million dollar status. She was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party and Baylor Hospital. Though slowed in her later years by Alzheimer's, she never lost her optimism and zest for life.
She is survived by three daughters: Doyle Ann Sears, of Los Angeles; Peggy Sears Newman and Laura Sears, M.D., of Dallas; sons-in-law Lynn Newman and Joe Milburn, M.D.; grandchildren Ben and Drew Newman, and Abby and Peter Ruth, Mary Brynn and Joan Milburn; and great grandchild Lucy Ruth.
Her family thanks her caregivers at Sunrise Hillcrest, especially her wonderful Tracy Chadakwa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Dr. A.D. Sears and Ouida Sears Endowment in Radiology Foundation at the Baylor Foundation, 3600 Gaston Ave Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75246-1800 or The Center For Brain Health at University of Texas-Dallas. Service Friday, July 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM, at Chapel East in the Sparkman Hillcrest Masoleum.
