George Ellsworth Wood was born about 1861 in Delaware County NY, to parents Henry Martin Wood, and Eliza Ann McClenon - Wood. After trying his luck at Farming, young George went west in search of a dream. He settled in Smith County Kansas, meeting his Bride, Minnie Steele. Working hard, following the path of past Wood store keepers from Delaware County, George eventually purchased co-ownership in a General Merchantile Store in Kensington Kansas area, and raised his family after marrying Minnie Steele on August 7th, 1895 in Douglas Kansas. MINNIE STEELE was born Jun 1873 in Nebraska (listed in this database) was the daughter of RICHARD STEELE and MALINDA CLINE. Per stories from other decendants from Kensington Kansas, many of Kensington's residents of the area were afforded Goods on the credit of their good name. George's beloved bride fell upon deaths door while giving birth to the couple's last son, Richard Henry Wood (also listed in this database)on July 10th 1909. After limited success at raising children alone, the family pulled roots, moving to the Ft. Collins / Larimer County area of Colorado. While there, George Ellsworth again tried his luck at a General Merchantile Store. As George and Minnie's children grew into adulthood, George continued to live, eventually dying on or about 1920 to 1925 in the Ft. Collins area. George Ellsworth's precise grave location is unknown at this time.
