Richard Henry Wood was born July 10th 1909, to George Ellsworth Wood, and Minnie Steele - Wood. The birth was not without complications, as Richard Henry's mother, Minnie had died of complications arising from the birth of Richard. The Wood family remained in the Kensington Kansas area until about 1915 when George Ellsworth moved the entire family to Colorado and settled in the Ft. Collins, (Larimer County) area. Richard Henry Wood was raised by his eldest sister Minnie Zoe Wood - Adams, who continued to care for his emotional needs throughout his life. Richard Henry became known in his adult life as "Dick", and enlisted in the U.S. Marines, fighting valiantly during Word War II and the Korean conflicts. Richard Henry was granted the Bronze Star for valor during the Battle of Siapan. Dick Wood was a national hero, and while married twice, no children were thought to have been blessed of either marriage.
