Kathryn was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, class of 1939; she furthered her education by receiving her B.A. in Education from The Ohio State University in French, Spanish, General Science and Biology. She also did her Post Graduate work at the University of Dayton and the University of Mexico in Saltillo, Mexico. She was a retired High School teacher, teaching at both Portsmouth West High School and Portsmouth High School. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Portsmouth Chapter, Adviser to the Order of Rainbow for Girls as well as being a Kentucky Colonel.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Max E. Hopkins who she married on December 16, 1946; and a brother, Elwood Kegley. Kathryn is survived by a son, Reverend Gary L. (Suzanne) Hopkins of West Portsmouth; two grandsons, Andrew S. (Elizabeth) Hopkins of Cincinnati and Amos S. (Katy) Hopkins of Tucson, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth, with the Reverend Richard North officiating, and interment in Friendship Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday starting at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hill View Retirement Center, Friendship United Methodist Church or SOMC Hospice in Kathryn's name.
