He was born on December 31, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA; a son of the late Theodore and Susie Ewanyk. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1944. On November 7, 1953, in Zion Episcopal Church, John was united in marriage to the former Gladys Szawlowski. He was a tool maker for Rome Manufacturing, General Electric, and Rome Tourney until his retirement in 1994. John was a devoted musician since the age of 16, playing the accordion and bass for many bands through the years. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Musicians Association. He enjoyed playing basketball in his earlier years and played semi-professional for Rome Manufacturing.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gladys; a daughter and son-in-law; two sons and daughters-in-law; and five cherished grandchildren.
