Early Life: John was born in Heber City, Utah, to parents, *Henry Cardwell Clegg and Marion Garland Davis Clegg, on September 19, 1927.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: John had a long happy life filled with service to his family, his church and his students. John married *Helen Truman in December 1953. He is a constant source of inspiration for those who knew him. John received a BS and PhD from the University of Utah in 1949 and 1957. He was a professor of Electrical Engineering at Brigham Young University from 1961 until his retirement. John had a brilliant, innovative mind and his family enjoyed many electrical and mechanical "inventions" such as: motorized awnings, motion sensing lighting and other wonders, years before such things became common. He held several patents in motor control and lighting systems; he was recognized for his contributions many times, including a Special Recognition award from the United States Department of Energy for his lighting systems work in 1988. He had great passions for photography, music, astronomy and the outdoors. He could fix just about anything, mechanical or electrical. John Cardwell Clegg, PhD, passed away peacefully in his home on January 29, 2014.
Survived By: His children: Scott Clegg, of Orem, UT; Paul and Linda Clegg of American Fork, UT; Suzanne Clegg-McGlone (Theodore), of Lynnbrook, NY; David Bruce Clegg, of South Jordan, UT; James and Aleta Clegg, of Pleasant Grove, UT; Sarah Jane and Doug Allen, of Lindon, UT; Jared and Tess Clegg, of Provo, UT; and Ruth and Mike Stouder, of Arlington, VA; 23 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
