Alvin Cleo Jeffery, son of the late James William “Willie” Jeffery and Edna Denton Jeffery, was born September 12, 1940 in Lunenburg, Arkansas. He departed this life January 28, 2014 in Batesville, Arkansas at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 16 days. He was united in marriage to Betty Elliott on April 7, 1958 and to this union four children were born. He spent his life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, provider and friend. During his working years, he owned and operated Alvin’s Tune Up and Repair since 1975. In addition to owning his small engine repair business, he was a mail carrier for the United State Postal Service. Retiring after 36 years of employment. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Melbourne.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Betty Jeffery of the home; three sons: Steve Jeffery of Springdale, Robert Jeffery of Melbourne and Matt Jeffery of Guion; one daughter: Elizabeth Deeter of Lynn, Arkansas; one sister: Alma Harmon of Wentachee, Washington; six grandchildren: Alvin Dean Jeffery, Bill Jeffery, Joseph Jeffery, Lindsey Wright, Brett Deeter and Miranda Jeffery and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: R. H Jeffery and two infant brothers. Funeral service will be Friday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel in Melbourne with Rick Burke and Doyne Robertson officiating.
Burial will be at Combs Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation will be Thursday, January 30 from 6-8 p.m.
Pallbearers: Clovis Vest, George Gillihan, Rick Hoskinds, Jim Muncy, Brian Biard and Mike Downing.
