Ivan Doran Phillips was born to Hubert and Edith Phillips (Morgan) on June 2, 1938 in Woodland in the parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, the district of New Market. Ivan grew up in a well-mannered home with lots of love. While growing up he attended school in the Parish of St. Elizabeth. As Ivan began his journey in life, he obtained employment at the St. Catherine District Prison as a Prison Officer.

Ivan resided in Spanish Town, Jamaica until the late 1970s when he migrated to the United States. Ivan lived in Brooklyn, New York where he worked as a Package Handler and Accountant for LB Products. Ivan came to Michigan in the early 1980s and began working as Security Guard for a company in Detroit, Michigan. Ivan continued his Security Guard career at Pontiac General Hospital. Ivan then worked as a Dietary Aide and Janitor at Bloomfield Hills Care Center. Ivan also worked as a Custodian at First Presbyterian Church that he loved dearly. Ivan's hobbies were playing Cricket and Dominoes with his friends, Gardening, Dancing to Soca and Calypso music, helping anybody in need, and talking about Politics.

Mr. Phillips leaves to cherish in his memory his wife Johanna Phillips of twenty-seven years until his death. children, Romonia Phillips, Patricia (David) Bullock, Julia Phillips, Patricia "Maxcine" Forrester, Hasalee Green, Mar, and Randolph Phillips; siblings; Jane (Sydney) Kirlew of England; Elton "Clive" Phillips of Jamaica; host of grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins other numerous relatives and friends.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by, children, Seymour and Winsom "Angie" Phillips, siblings, Mavis Bogle, Daphine Phillips, Hubert "Agent", Derrick, Bryon, and Doreen Phillips.
