Carl Edwin Copas, 79, of Lucasville, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at his residence. He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Lucasville, a son of the late Donald "Jim" and Sarah Ellen Crabtree Copas. Carl was a retired foreman from Brown Steel in Columbus and former owner and operator of Copas Grocery on Duck Run.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Blankenship Copas, whom he married Dec. 29, 1975 in Columbus; six daughters, Sandy (Jeff) Goddard of Waverly, Elena (Vernon) Wiles of Canal Winchester, Toni Ellsworth, Tammy (Bill) Pugh, both of Pennsylvania, Lynn (Randy) Tomblin of Lucasville, and Carla (Jason) Blair of McDermott; five sons, Rick (Monnie) Copas of Pataskala, Kenny (Sherry) Ward, Fred Ward, Charlie (Carline) Ward, all of Columbus, Rodney (Karen) Blankenship of McDermott; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers Ronal Copas and Bobby Copas, both of McDermott; one sister, Lois Love of Pickerington; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Blankenship; and one brother, Virgil Copas.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the Christ's Restoration Church in Pine Lane Lucasville with Elders Don Mottashed and Mike Chaffin officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and an hour before the funeral Friday at the church.
