Ernest A. Beaudoin 1925 - 2014 CHICOPEE

Ernest A. Beaudoin, 89, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, January 26, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers.

He was born in Holyoke on January 16, 1925, a beloved son of the late William W. and Emma (LaPan) Beaudoin. He was raised in Holyoke, attended Holyoke Trade High School and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to Chicopee.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II with Battery C, 158th Anti-Aircraft Battalion and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he returned to Holyoke and was employed by the former Chemical Paper Company and the former Merrick Lumber Company. He later was employed by the former Doane & Williams Company and the former J. G. Roy Lumber Company, both in Chicopee. He was last employed and retired in 1988 as a carpenter in the maintenance department at Baystate West, which later became Tower Square, in Springfield. Active in his faith, he was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Most of all, Ernie was a wonderful provider to his family. He showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Lena L. (Savage) Beaudoin who was Called Home on October 13, 2011. They were married on November 27, 1947 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together.

Besides his wife and his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving son-in-law, Dennis A. Theroux who was Called Home on June 10, 2011; his dear brothers, William, Rene, Normand and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Raymond O. Beaudoin; his dear sisters, Evelyn Beaudoin and Viola Livingston; and his dear brother-in-law, Arthur H. Savage who was Called Home on January 13, 2013.

He leaves his five devoted children, Raymond A. Beaudoin and his partner, Beverly Loftus, Elizabeth A. "Betty" Theroux, Ellen M. Rudert and her husband, Alan, Ernest F. Beaudoin and Laura A. Gagnon, all of Chicopee; his 11 cherished grandchildren, Raymond and Matthew; Denise, Jennifer and Daniel; Melissa and Sarah; James and Ernie, Jr.; and Jessica and Alicia; his 17 cherished great-grandchildren; his dear brother, Henry Beaudoin and his wife, Yvette, of Chicopee; his dear sister-in-law of the Savage family; Helen Swierad of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Beaudoin and Savage families.

Ernest and Lena will be watching from the Eternal City of Heaven for the arrival of their 18th great-grandchild in March.

His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, January 30, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (the funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.

His burial with Military Honors will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.

His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to either Sainte Rose de Lima Church, c/o 15 Chapel Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 or to Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
