Mary Kidd Compton, 88, of 5199 Wards Road, Evington, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Luther W. Compton for 51 years.
Born Feb. 15, 1916, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late Sidney Richard Kidd and Lillie Mae Hall Kidd.
She was a retired employee of The Lane Company.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two stepsons, Buddy Compton of Kentucky and Clyde Compton of Tennessee; two sisters, Janie K. Paige of Evington and Marion K. Short of Hurt; three devoted nieces, Edith Kidd of Evington, Linda Hailey of Evington, and Julie Amodeo of Richmond; a devoted nephew, Ronnie Hall of Altavista; also many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Carter Kidd, Willie Kidd, Edward Kidd, Walter Kidd, Gilliam Kidd, and Harrison Kidd; and two sisters, Elizabeth Briles and Lillian K. Allen.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Finch and Finch Chapel by the Rev. Davis Place and the Rev. Frank Hughes. Interment will follow at Altavista Memorial Park.
Finch & Finch Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista is in charge of the arrangments.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses in surgical ICU at Lynchburg General Hospital for all the care and love they gave to Mrs. Compton during her stay.
