Jimmy Don Yates, 69, went to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 24, 2014. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

Jimmy (Jim) was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Wilson, Ark., to William and Amanda Yates. He graduated from Mt. Vernon Missouri High School in 1962; married Connie Boyd-Yates in 1965 in Rockford, Ill.; and they were happily married for more than 49 years.

Jim earned his Journeyman Sheet Metal License and spent many years perfecting his craft. He also enjoyed cross country truck driving, playing guitar, reading books, fishing, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, and spending time with family, friends, and especially his grandbabies.

Jim is preceded in death by his father William C. Yates; his brother, Richard Roland and sister, Elsie Faye.

Jim is survived by his mother, Amanda (Rufus) Staggs of Midwest City; wife, Connie Yates, McLoud; sons, Dennis Yates, Kona, Hawaii, Wayne Yates, Jacksonville, N.C., Shayne Yates, McLoud, Jamie (Joy) Yates, McLoud; daughter, Cathy (Jim) Ogle, McLoud: two sisters, Janie (Mickey) Mann, Norman, Kathy (Fred) Wyatt, Midwest City; one brother, Melvin (Martha) Yates, W. Memphis, Ark.: many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at First Baptist Church of McLoud, Eighth and Broadway, McLoud, with Pastor Matthew Halsted officiating. Graveside service immediately follows at Dale Cemetery.
