Lamont E. Herfel, of rural Ponca, Nebraska went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2008, while surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 04, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Evangelical Free Church in Ponca, Nebraska with Pastor Dennis Ritchey officiating. Burial was at the Maskell Cemetery in rural Maskell, Nebraska.

Lamont was born on November 04, 1934 in Newcastle, Nebraska, the son of Wilmer and Phyllis (Bishop) Herfel. He grew up in the rural Dixon area.

On December 15, 1956 he married Marilyn (Sue) at the Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple moved to the Lawton, Iowa area, where he raised cattle, while working as a mechanic at International Truck. He also drove a truck for Dugan Transport out of Sioux City, Iowa. In 1977 the couple moved to rural Ponca, where he farmed. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and friends and collecting antique tractors.

Survivors include his wife, three children, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, and two sistersas well as several nieces and nephews.

Lamont was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Phyllis Herfel; son-in-law, Roger Boyle; a sister-in-law, Jean Herfel; a niece, LouAnn Herfel and a nephew, Clinton Dempster.
