Her maiden name was Parks, the daughter of Samuel Parks and Phoebe Caldwell. Lydia first married Andrew Caldwell Hunter sometime before 1817, in North Carolina. He was born on 24 March 1796, in North Carolina. Andrew Caldwell Hunter may very well have been a blood relative to his wife Lydia & Lydia's mother, she being a Caldwell. We believe Andrew Caldwell Hunter's mother's surname may have been Caldwell, but that is just speculation at this time.

Source for Lydia's maiden name:
In the 1 January 1925 Iowa State census, at Mason City (Ward 4), Cerro Gordo, Iowa, for Samuel L. Hunter (youngest son of Andrew Caldwell Hunter & Lydia Parks). This census asked the question, name of father and "full maiden name of mother". Samuel L. Hunter, said his mother's full name was "Lyddia Parks" and that his father was Andrew Hunter.

The family is believed to have lived in Franklin & Davidson County, Tennessee. Seven of their children were born in Tennessee. In 1834 the family left Tennessee and settled first in Shelby County Illinois and later in Elizabeth precinct, Jo Daviess County, Illinois.

The Hunter family is found (under the name of Andrew C. Hunter) in the 1840 census for Shelby County, Illinois, living right next door to Lydia's parents!

Her husband, Andrew Caldwell Hunter is believed to have died either in Shelby or Jo Daviess County, Illinois, on 18 October 1844. After his death, on 9 February 1848, Lydia married again to a Mr. Absalom Hanken Jewell, he was born around 1788 in North Carolina (we believe that this was his 2nd marriage as well).

The family is found in the 1850 census for Elizabeth precinct, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. One of Lydia's sons (George W. Hunter) was living in White Oak Springs, Lafayette County, Wisconsin at this time. Three more children were born in Illinois.

Before June of 1855 the family moved from Illinois to Richwood, Richland County, Wisconsin (found in the 1855 & 1860 census living there). Her son William Carrol Hunter was also living there at that time.

By 1880, Lydia is found living with her son George W. Hunter in Georgetown, Clear Creek County, Colorado. At the time of her death Lydia was living in Clear Creek County, Colorado. She died at the ripe old age of 98. She was buried in Glendale Cemetery which is now part of Alvarado Cemetery. (see link below)
